DELCAMBRE, La. (AP) - The Town of Delcambre has held a groundbreaking ceremony for a brand new grocery store - something that’s been missing since Hurricane Rita struck in 2005.

Rita destroyed the area’s only grocery store, and a new one was never built - until now.

KATC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1QcUx36 ) when completed, the 11,000-square-foot full service grocery store will be located at 410 Canal Street at Louisiana Highway 14 in Delcambre, formerly Arthur’s Hardware.

Shawn’s Delcambre Market is expected to be finished by December 2016. It will include a meat department, deli, bakery, produce and dry goods.

The owner, Shawn Sigur, opened a specialty meat shop - Shawn’s Cajun Meats, Too - in his hometown about seven years ago. It’s located less than a mile from the new store now under construction.
