NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire that flared up again hours after it engulfed three row houses on Staten Island.

Fire officials say five firefighters were hospitalized with minor injuries.

The blaze erupted Tuesday night in a house on Clove Road and quickly spread to two other buildings. The Staten Island Advance says one of the buildings was abandoned for years.

It says at least three residents were displaced after firefighters brought the blaze under control at about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.

But firefighters had to return at daybreak Wednesday to battle a fire at the same location. It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the second flare-up. They put it out around 10 a.m.

No one was home at the time of either fire.
