HELENA, Mont. (AP) - A Helena attorney has been appointed as the new district judge for Lewis and Clark County.

The Independent Record reports (https://bit.ly/1PZSDVc ) that Gov. Steve Bullock announced his selection of DeeAnn Cooney to replace Judge Jeffrey Sherlock, who will be retiring at the end of the year from the 1st Judicial District, which also includes Broadwater County.

Cooney, who owns Cooney Law Firm in Helena, will serve until the next election cycle in 2016.

Cooney received her Juris Doctorate from the Antioch School of Law. She is a graduate of the University of Montana and Butte High School.
