OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Gov. Jay Inslee announced Wednesday he is appointing his spokesman, David Postman, as chief of staff effective Dec. 14.

The governor’s office says Joby Shimomura, Inslee’s current chief of staff, is stepping down to resume her work as a glass artist.

Before being hired by the governor at the start of his term in 2013, Postman previously worked as a spokesman at Vulcan, Inc. For 26 years before that, he worked as a journalist covering politics for publications including The Seattle Times.

Inslee’s office says Shimomura will stay on in an advisory role until early January. She worked for Inslee as his congressional chief of staff for six years and managed several of his campaigns.

The governor’s office also announced that Jaime Smith has been promoted to take Postman’s place as chief spokeswoman.
