PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Icy roads closed schools throughout Eastern Oregon and the Columbia River Gorge.

In Eastern Oregon, the overnight storm that dumped snow and ice led officials to cancel classes Wednesday in Hermiston, Pendleton, Umatilla, Boardman, Milton-Freewater and elsewhere. Government offices of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation government offices were also closed.

Icy roads in the Columbia River Gorge closed or delayed schools on both sides of the Oregon-Washington line.

Interstate 84 remained open, but travel was slow because of the slippery pavement and poor visibility.

U.S. 26 east of Mt. Hood was closed early Wednesday because of jackknifed semis near Warm Springs.
