LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Lafayette Parish School Board members have discussed revising which employee groups qualify for raises from a half-cent sales tax fund.

The Advocate (https://bit.ly/1N3CXdz ) reports the board’s Executive and Finance committees discussed the possible revisions Tuesday after Human Resources Director Bruce Leininger asked it to consider changing the criteria used to determine who would be eligible to benefit from the funds.

In May, the board sought to exclude some employee groups with no direct, daily interaction with student instruction or development. The excluded positions included curriculum coordinators, audiologists, physical therapists and social workers.

The committee agreed to recommend that the board on Wednesday recognize school psychologists as eligible employees for the tax, which was established in 2002. Annual raises from the tax have ranged from $1,200 to $2,100 in recent years.
