MILFORD, Mich. (AP) - Police say an Oakland County woman has admitted to beating her husband and dog with a crowbar to put “them out of their misery.”

Yvonne Cortis was arraigned Wednesday on charges of attempted murder and animal torture. Milford police say her husband, 68-year-old Greg Cortis, is on life support.

Detective Sgt. Scott Tarasiewicz says 58-year-old Yvonne Cortis admitted her role in the attack Monday night. She says her husband and dog were sick. Court officials say she has a history of mental illness.

Bond was set at $1 million. No attorney appeared with Cortis, who appeared in Novi District Court by video from jail.
