LOS ANGELES (AP) - The California Lottery says a beach parking attendant has won $866,000 from the first Powerball ticket he ever purchased.

Officials say Jorge Solis-Cortes bought a $2 Quick Pick for the Nov. 18 drawing at Nabor’s Meat Market in South Los Angeles after giving his father a ride there to shop.

Solis-Cortes, who works for the Los Angeles County’s Department of Beaches and Harbors, matched five of six numbers drawn. Had the sixth number been 6 instead of 23, he would have won the $70 million jackpot.

The Daily News reported Tuesday (https://bit.ly/1RmxcNi) that the 23-year-old says he will use the winnings to pay for his education and help his family.
