DENVER (AP) - Prosecutors have charged the mother of a 6-week-old girl who drowned in a bathtub in Thornton.

The Adams County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday that 27-year-old Marliese Schreiber is facing charges of criminally negligent child abuse resulting in death and two counts of negligent child abuse involving her other two daughters, ages 1 and 4.

The Denver Post reports that, according to court records, Schreiber told investigators she left her children unattended in a bathtub Nov. 22, and the door was locked when she checked on them. After breaking in, the infant, Nessa Muniz, was found floating on her side.

Doctors at the hospital gave her a 1 percent chance of survival when she arrived.

Schreiber’s grandmother told The Associated Press on Wednesday night her granddaughter has been advised not to speak about the case.
