CRYSTAL SPRINGS, Miss. (AP) - An Amtrak train has struck a sport utility vehicle in central Mississippi, and the SUV driver was taken to a hospital with injuries that authorities said were not life-threatening.

Multiple media outlets report the collision occurred about noon Wednesday in Crystal Springs, a small town about 25 miles south of Jackson.

Copiah County Emergency Operations Center Director Randall Drane tells The Clarion-Ledger (https://on.thec-l.com/1TwA1uz ) it appears the SUV driver tried to beat the train through a crossing. The train struck the back of the vehicle.

Investigators did not immediately release the name of the driver, who was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Marc Magliari, an Amtrak spokesman, says nobody aboard the train was injured. The train continued on its route to New Orleans.
