TEXAS CITY, Texas (AP) - A much-troubled Southeast Texas school district being disbanded by the state at the end of the school year will be annexed by a neighboring district.

In a letter to Texas City school Superintendent Cynthia Lusignolo, state Education Commissioner Michael Williams said his investigation found that annexing the La Marque Independent School District will pose no hardship on the Texas City school district.

Lusignolo said in a news release that the Teas City district is prepared for th4e annexation of the La Marque district’s six schools and about 2,300 students. The Texas City Independent School District has nine schools and about 6,400 students.

In February, the TEA revoked the district’s accreditation, citing unacceptable academic ratings and poor finances.
