COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police detectives are trying to determine the identity of skeletal remains found near an Interstate 89 off ramp in the town of Colchester.

Police say a passer-by spotted the remains Wednesday and called police.

Investigators determined that based on their condition, the remains had been there for several years. Police did not give any immediate indication as to the cause or manner of death.

The remains were taken to the office of the Vermont Medical Examiner for possible identification.

State police are also working with area police departments to identify the remains.
