MARSHFIELD, Wis. (AP) - Authorities say a 10-year-old Wisconsin boy has died after a pickup slammed into the back of the horse-drawn wagon in which he was riding last month.

Wood County Sheriff’s Capt. Shawn Becker says Melvin Kempf of Vesper died at about 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The boy’s father, Christian Kempf, was driving the wagon that was hauling corn. Both father and son were flown by helicopters to Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, where the father died Nov. 21.

Daily Tribune Media (https://wrtnews.co/1Q1D0MX ) reports the son had been in critical condition since the Nov. 20 crash.

A 31-year-old Necedah man was driving a pickup that crashed into the wagon. He was arrested, but the district attorney is waiting to see the results of a blood test before deciding what charges to file.
