ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) - Rochester police say a handcuffed man jumped into the Zumbro River as he tried to evade officers.

Police were called to a fight in a downtown hotel ramp early Saturday. When officers arrived, they found several men who had been fighting. Police handcuffed a 23-year-old Racine man so they could talk with others.

Police Sgt. Tony Teal says as officers talked, the handcuffed man sneaked away, scrambled over a small parking ramp wall and jumped several feet into the Zumbro River. The man crossed the river but was caught by another officer on the other side.

The Post-Bulletin (https://bit.ly/1TXLqmM ) report the cold and wet man was taken to Mayo Clinic. He was ticketed for disorderly conduct and fleeing police on foot, and released.
