SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Judge John A. Pearce breezed through the confirmation process with Utah’s Senate to become the newest justice on the state Supreme Court.

The Senate voted unanimously 21-0 late last week to approve Pearce’s nomination.

Gov. Gary Herbert appointed Pearce last month.

The Senate had 60 days to hold a vote.

Pearce has been serving as a judge on the Utah Court of Appeals. The governor named him to that post in 2013.

Pearce previously worked as general counsel to Herbert in the governor’s office.

He replaces Justice Jill Parrish, who left the state Supreme Court after she became a federal judge in Utah in August.
