WYOMING, Mich. (AP) - Christmas came six days early for many children in the Grand Rapids area.

Volunteers distributed 1,800 new bikes and helmets Saturday in Wyoming, the 11th consecutive year of the giveaway. Families in the neighborhood didn’t know about the bikes until they received a text message.

The Grand Rapids Press (https://bit.ly/1Zi4xvp ) says fire trucks and police cars rolled through the neighborhood with the news, too. A different neighborhood in the Grand Rapids area is selected each year.

Juana Hernandez brought her three children. She says they were excited after she told them, “Santa is going to bring you new bikes.”

The bikes were provided by Elves & More, a Grand Rapids-area nonprofit.
