PITTSBURGH (AP) - A Pittsburgh police sergeant is facing misdemeanor charges in an arrest he made during a high school football championship game last month.

The city’s public safety department said Sgt. Stephen Matakovich was working a uniformed off-duty detail at Heinz Field on Nov. 28 when he arrested a man on charges of criminal trespass, aggravated assault and public drunkenness.

But officials said a police investigator and a use-of-force specialist reviewed a security recording of the arrest and said it didn’t support Matakovich’s version of events. He was charged in Allegheny County with simple assault and official oppression, both second-degree misdemeanors.

Court documents don’t list an attorney representing Matakovich and an official with the Fraternal Order of Police Fort Pitt Lodge No. 1 didn’t immediately return a message seeking comment.
