ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (AP) - Local governments in Brown County are sharing in $17.4 million in excess Lambeau Field taxes.

WLUK-TV (https://bit.ly/1YsiMRt ) reports the money was handed out to the county’s 24 municipalities Monday.

The state estimated $17.6 million was left over after Brown County’s stadium sales tax ended in September. State Rep. David Steffen of Howard says 98 percent of the money was handed out Monday, and the final 2 percent is still being processed by the state.

Gov. Scott Walker signed the bill last month to return the money to communities and the county’s government.

The state gave $4.35 million - one-quarter of the money - to Brown County for redeveloping the Brown County Arena. The rest was given to the county’s municipalities for lowering property taxes, debt relief or economic development.
