ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - A woman who admitted stealing more than $100,000 in Veterans Affairs death benefits has been sentenced to five months in prison and five months of home confinement.

The Town Talk (https://townta.lk/1OEGmj8 ) reports that 45-year-old Linda Sue Bourgeois of Ferriday also was ordered to repay $107,452.33.

A news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office says U.S. District Judge Dee Drell sentenced her Thursday on one count of theft of government money.

U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley says Bourgeois shared a bank account with her aunt, and never notified the VA when her aunt died. The VA cut off the funds in March.
