BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The legal troubles are mounting for a former upstate New York firefighter convicted in a fraud case.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says ex-Brockport firefighter Steven Ray admits that he forged a character reference while awaiting sentencing in a forged check case and then coerced the person whose name he used into saying that he wrote it.

Now on top of the February fraud conviction, the 50-year-old Ray has pleaded guilty to obstructing justice. Sentencing in both cases is scheduled for Jan. 21.

At the time of his arrest, Ray was an officer in the Brockport Fire Department, west of Rochester.
