HELENA, Mont. (AP) - A Helena man has entered a plea in the death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter.

The Independent Record reports (https://bit.ly/1S4IGFI ) Coleton Christous Coburn entered an Alford plea on Friday to felony deliberate homicide. Under such a plea, he does not admit guilt but acknowledges prosecutors have enough evidence to gain a conviction.

Coburn was charged with the death of Persephone Aurora Marie Nielsen. She died on July 13 of blunt-force trauma that caused her brain to bleed.

Coburn agreed he was responsible for the girl’s death, but said he did not purposely or knowingly commit the offense.

Prosecutors plan to recommend that Coburn receive life in prison without the possibility of parole when he is sentenced on March 8. His attorneys will be allowed to argue for parole eligibility.
