AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - An Augusta man who was sentenced to seven days in jail for willfully violating Maine’s clean election law has been charged with kicking a puppy on the Kennebec River Rail Trail.
Officials told the Kennebec Journal (https://bit.ly/22lqDzA ) that witnesses corroborated the dog owner’s account that 45-year-old Michael Hein was jogging on the trail when he stopped to kick the leashed puppy that moved in his direction. The kick sent the golden retriever puppy into the air, but it has recovered.
Hein didn’t immediately return a message left on his cellphone on Monday.
He pleaded guilty to violating the Maine Clean Election Act by paying some of his own money instead of collecting $5 donations from individuals to qualify for funding.
