NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Police are accusing a man of phoning threats that 20 armed people would open fire at Newark’s Penn Station.

New Jersey Transit police charged 37-year-old Lance Allen of Newark with making terroristic threats and false public alarm.

Police say the calls were placed on Saturday. They prompted police to search the station and surrounding areas.

NJ Transit Police Chief Christopher Trucillo said in a statement that the department takes all threats seriously.

It is not known if Allen has a lawyer who can comment on the charges.
