HYDE PARK, N.Y. (AP) - State police say they’ve charged a 26-year-old man with trying to rob a Hudson Valley convenience store at gunpoint before he was chased away by the owner during a confrontation caught on surveillance video.

Troopers say they arrested Christopher Dam of Hyde Park on Friday and charged him with attempted robbery and criminal use of a firearm.

Police say Dam walked into the Hyde Park store last Tuesday night while armed with a shotgun and demanded money from the store’s owner, Amrik Singh.

The store’s video cameras showed Singh trying to grab the gunman before pushing him out the door.

Police say their release of the video resulted in a tip that led to the arrest.

Dam is being held Monday in the Dutchess County Jail. It couldn’t be determined if he has a lawyer.
