NEW YORK (AP) - New York University’s new president, who will be arriving from the University of Oxford in January, is getting the royal treatment.
The school has been renovating Andrew Hamilton’s new residence, a 4,200-square-foot penthouse duplex in Greenwich Village with four bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms and a rooftop terrace.
The New York Times reported Monday (https://nyti.ms/1JpAJDM ) the new digs will cost at least $1.1 million, possibly double.
Assemblywoman Deborah Glick, chairwoman of the Higher Education Committee, questioned the amount, saying it seemed high, especially to the average person already paying already “eye-popping” tuition bills.
NYU spokesman John Beckman said the renovation is not just for any one president but a long term effort to utilize the space for fundraising and VIP events as well as a home for future presidents.
