BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - A state panel monitoring decommissioning plans at the closed Vermont Yankee nuclear plant will meet to discuss what advice to offer regarding plans for a second storage area for highly radioactive spent nuclear fuel at the plant site in Vernon.

The second storage pad for the dry casks that hold the spent fuel needs approval from the state Public Service Board and the Nuclear Decommissioning Citizens Advisory Panel is expected to weigh in with a recommendation.

That panel has set a meeting for Monday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. to discuss the advisory opinion it will provide to the Public Service Board.

The session, which is open to the public, is set for the Windham Regional Commission’s conference room at 139 Main Street in Brattleboro.
