BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Forecasters say severe storms — including the threat of tornadoes — will be possible on Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday evening across Alabama.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham says an area that includes metro Birmingham and several other cities will be at risk of tornadoes, winds of up to 70 mph and golf ball-sized hall. That part of the state — described by the weather service as an elevated threat area— also includes Anniston, Gadsden and Tuscaloosa.

Forecasters say damaging weather is also possible in an area to the south, including Montgomery, Auburn, Troy and Mobile. They say that part of the state will have a more limited risk of severe weather.
