BETHEL, Alaska (AP) - The Association of Village Council Presidents says it has laid off 30 employees due to budget troubles.

KYUK-AM reports (https://bit.ly/1J2y5sL ) that the organization said in a press release that general staff will take a 5 percent pay cut and senior management will see a 10 percent salary reduction.

AVCP is the head nonprofit for the 56 villages in the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta.

The layoffs come months after the organization was awarded more than $9 million in a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice over contract costs for hundreds of tribal agencies.

The senior chairman for AVCP could not be reached for comment.
