AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Brig. Gen. Gerard Bolduc of the Maine National Guard has withdrawn his name from consideration to serve as adjutant general on a permanent basis.

The acting adjutant general announced his decision Wednesday, a day after Gov. Paul LePage announced that he’d nominated him for the permanent post.

Bolduc said he was grateful for the governor’s support. He has served as acting adjutant general since LePage fired Brig. Gen. James Campbell in March.

The adjutant general leads the Maine National Guard and serves as commissioner of defense, veterans and emergency management.
