MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - A West Virginia man who caused the deaths of numerous fish and a frog when he destroyed three tanks during a home break-in has been sentenced to a year in jail.

The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown, Maryland (https://bit.ly/1NLK76H ) reports that 23-year-old Cody Lee Gorman of Martinsburg was sentenced Monday in Berkeley County Circuit Court.

Gorman pleaded guilty in September to felony destruction of property.

Court records show Gorman destroyed the tanks and cut and removed copper pipe from the basement of a Martinsburg residence in August 2014. The frog and more than a dozen fish died after the tanks were destroyed.

Gorman said before being sentenced that his actions were “a really dumb thing for me to do.”
