HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) - A former New Jersey sheriff’s officer who says he lost control after discovering a nude photo of a man on his girlfriend’s cellphone is heading to prison.

The Record newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/1NL1Law ) 45-year-old Jose Garcia was sentenced Monday to five years behind bars on a weapons violation.

State Superior Court Judge Susan Steele says the Lodi man found the photo in August 2013 and told the man that he’d put a “bullet in his head” if the man ever spoke to his girlfriend again. Steele says Garcia later went to the man’s home and put a pistol to his head.

Defense attorney Brian Neary says his client lost control in a fit of anger. Garcia says it has changed his life.

But Steele told him he should have known better.
