DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - A man has been found guilty of fatally stabbing a Davenport woman and injuring her husband in 2014.

The Quad-City Times reports (https://bit.ly/1mB53Xl ) a jury in Scott County returned a guilty verdict Wednesday in the trial of 49-year-old Gary Fortune on charges including first-degree murder and attempted murder.

Fortune was accused of breaking into the Davenport apartment of his former fiancee’s mother, Betty Simmons, and Betty Simmons’ husband, Jack Simmons, in September 2014 and stabbing them. Betty Simmons was later pronounced dead and Jack Simmons survived multiple stab wounds.

The newspaper reports Fortune testified during his weeklong trial that Jack Simmons stabbed his wife and attacked him. Prosecutors presented a stark contrast and said Fortune stabbed the couple following a dispute involving Betty Simmons’ adult daughter.
