HEATH SPRINGS, S.C. (AP) - Troopers say a 52-year-old man has died after his pickup truck hit a cow standing in the middle of a two-lane road in Lancaster County.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Tony Keller says the wreck happened around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday on state Highway 522 about two miles north of Heath Springs.

Keller says the pickup driver hit a fence after striking the cow. The victim was wearing his seatbelt.

Lancaster County Deputy Coroner Karla Deese says an autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death for Joel Knight of Kershaw.

Deese says the cow also was killed.
