CROWVILLE, La. (AP) - The Franklin Parish sheriff says a 3-year-old boy drowned after he reportedly woke up inside his home, wandered outside and drowned in a ditch.

Franklin Parish Sheriff Kevin Cobb tells the News-Star (https://tnsne.ws/1U4uCdV ) that the boy was found dead early Tuesday in a ditch about 200 yards from his home near Crowville.

Cobb says the boy wandered off in the middle of the night. The sheriff’s office was notified about the missing child at about 4 a.m. and helped mount a search for the child.

The boy’s name was not immediately released.
