LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - A former University of Massachusetts bookkeeper has been indicted on charges of stealing more than $200,000.

The Sun newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/1m6FqOa ) that a Middlesex grand jury indicted Denise Daly on Dec. 15. The former part-time bookkeeper at the university’s Lowell campus is facing charges including larceny and falsifying books.

A spokesman says an employee uncovered inconsistencies in the accounting of cash receipts. Officials began investigating the Campus Recreation Center’s financial records between late 2013 and early 2014. The probe found that $217,000 had been stolen over about five years.

Daly was employed at the center for about eight years.

An arraignment date has not been scheduled.

Daly did not return phone messages left by the newspaper and no one answered the door at her Lowell home Tuesday.
