PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) - Voters in Hermiston and Stanfield will decide whether they want their fire districts to merge.

The East Oregonian reports (https://is.gd/bXHEEl ) that the Umatilla County Board of Commissioners voted last week to start the formation of Umatilla County Fire District No. 1 to replace the two districts.

A public hearing on the new district is scheduled for Jan. 20.

Stanfield voters in November 2014 approved a plan to create the new district, but voters in Hermiston shot the plan down.

Voters would need to pass measures to dissolve both districts and then approve a measure to form and fund a new district.
