DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Authorities in southwest Ohio say a 2-year-old child was shot when someone apparently fired at a car that subsequently crashed into a tree.

The child was taken to a hospital after the shooting and crash Thursday in Dayton, and no update on the child’s condition or the extent of the injuries was immediately available. Two adults were also in the car, and there were conflicting reports as to whether either one of them was injured.

The Dayton Daily News reports a bullet hole could be seen in the trunk of the vehicle as investigators blocked off the around it on Thursday afternoon.

WDTN-TV reported that police were actively searching for a suspect, but no further details were immediately released.
