MURFREESBORO, N.C. (AP) - Fisherman Zakk Royce has caught two record-breaking blue catfish in an 18-hour period.

Media outlets report Royce set a state record for blue catfish Sunday when he caught a 91-pounder at Lake Gaston. Just 18 hours later, on Monday, he caught another blue catfish weighing 105 pounds at the same reservoir.

Both fish were weighed on certified scales and their size accredited by a N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission fishery biologist.

Royce says he was fishing alone Sunday and needed to call a friend to help him lift the first catfish over the side of the boat. On Monday, Royce’s father helped him lift the catfish from the water - it wouldn’t fit in a net.

Royce says he kept the two fish alive and released them back into the lake.
