EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Police responding to a call have found a dead man and explosives in an East Providence home.

Lt. Raymond Blinn says a call came in Wednesday morning about a possible sudden death. He says the body was found but that the death did not appear suspicious.

Police also found a handful of items that appeared to be grenades. The area was closed off as the bomb squad seized the explosives to try and determine if they are active.

The area was evacuated. Residents were allowed back into their homes a couple hours later.

Police have not released the name of the homeowner. The medical examiner’s office is looking into the death.
