MARION, N.C. (AP) - State and local authorities are looking into a house fire that killed three people inside a McDowell County home.

Area media outlets report the three were killed in the fire early Wednesday morning in the Glenwood community. The identities of the three victims haven’t been officially confirmed.

McDowell County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Richelle Bailey said the home was burned beyond recognition and so were the bodies. The medical examiner determined there were three sets of remains inside the home. Autopsies are to be performed on the victims.

Officials say the home was fully engulfed when crews from nearly all McDowell County fire departments responded. Glenwood Fire Department Chief Donnie Tipton said the call was received at around 7:14 a.m.

The State Bureau of Investigation is also looking into the fire.
