MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. (AP) - Baxter County authorities say a county jail inmate has died less than 24 hours after being arrested.

Sheriff John Montgomery says 36-year-old Raylen Barrett Cox of Lonoke died at a Mountain Home hospital Thursday morning after being found unresponsive in his cell shortly before 6 a.m.

Montgomery says Cox had been arrested Wednesday on a public intoxication charge.

Arkansas State Police will investigate the death. Cox’s body is being sent to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
