ELLINGTON, Conn. (AP) - State Police are now conducting what has become a homicide investigation at an Ellington home where troopers were initially called for a burglary.

On Thursday, they identified the victim as 39-year-old Connie Dabate, who lived at the residence on Birchview Drive.

Troopers had received a call for a residential burglary alarm on Wednesday morning at the home. When they arrived, they found one injured victim, 39-year-old Richard Dabate, who was taken to Hartford Hospital for treatment.

They also found smoke inside the house.

As detectives continued to investigate how Richard Dabate was injured and what set off the alarm, they determined there were actually two victims and the second, Connie Dabate, was deceased.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is determining the cause and manner of her death.
