WINNSBORO, La. (AP) - Louisiana State Police is investigating a deadly shooting involving an officer in Franklin Parish.

State Trooper Michael Reichardt says about 10:30 a.m. Thursday Franklin Parish sheriff’s deputies were pursuing a reckless driver on U.S. 425, south of Winnsboro, when the incident occurred.

A road block had been set up ahead of the pursuit in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but Reichardt says the driver refused to stop. He says as the man drove toward the road block, the deputies feared for their lives and opened fire.

Bullets struck the driver, who later died.

Reichardt says an investigation into the shooting continues.

Neither the name of the deceased driver or the identities of the deputies involved in the shooting have been released.
