HOUSTON (AP) - Houston police say a veteran officer died after collapsing at a police station.

Police Chief Charles McClelland says that Officer Seldon O’Brien was found unresponsive after collapsing Wednesday at the Midwest Station. The 40-year-old O’Brien was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

McClelland said an autopsy of O’Brien’s body has been scheduled but police believe it appears the officer died from natural causes.

McClelland said O’Brien had not complained about pain and appeared in good spirits while eating lunch with a colleague earlier Wednesday.

O’Brien, who had been with the police department for 10 years, was assigned to the station’s Investigative First Responder Division.

The officer is survived by his parents and his sister.
