PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - The former director of the World Pro Ski Tour from the 1980s and 90s hopes to relaunch the tour in 2017.

Ed Rogers says he’s lining up investors to resurrect the World Pro Ski Tour, which for 40 years served as the only made-for-TV ski racing event with large cash prizes and national sponsors.

Rogers created a style of competition in which two skiers raced against each other instead of the conventional method of individuals racing against the clock. The races pitted Olympic and World Cup champs against weekend warrior ski racers from all over the globe.

The World Pro Ski Tour ended in 1999. Rogers says he’s confident this is the “right time and the right group to bring the tour back to life.”
