OREM, Utah (AP) - Drivers in Orem who are caught with minor traffic violations this week are receiving more than expected as the police department is giving gifts instead of citations.

KUTV-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1YA5QJl ) that all week Orem police are giving out present donations from officers as well as businesses in the community.

During a ride along on Tuesday, officer Brian Luangsawasdi offered cookies to a driver without headlights, a stuffed animal to a man who appeared to be texting and driving, and a wrapped bicycle to a driver without a brake light who ran a red light.

Luangsawasdi says the gifts are a way to instill some good feelings toward police that people lose over time.
