ABINGTON, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a 73-year-old man was shot to death and the alleged gunman shot himself when police stopped him in suburban Philadelphia.

Police say the gunman shot the victim around 2 p.m. Wednesday on the porch of the man’s Abington Township home and took off.

Officers stopped him soon after and police say the man shot himself after refusing to show his hands. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

An autopsy is scheduled for the victim Thursday. Authorities didn’t immediately identify him.

It’s unclear what led up to the shooting.
