WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - Providence has broken a high-temperature record set just last year as the mercury soared across Rhode Island.

The National Weather Service reports the temperature Thursday reached 65 degrees, eclipsing the Christmas Eve record of 64 degrees set last year.

The temperature is expected to reach 68 degrees.

Last year’s record for Christmas Day was 63 degrees. The weather service says that record could also fall. A high near 62 with partly sunny skies is expected.

In Warwick, Harry and Denise Dowling jogged through Goddard Memorial State Park in T-shirts and shorts.

They say they didn’t expect to be jogging in such lightweight apparel on Christmas Eve, but plan to do it again on Christmas Day.

Golfers took advantage of the warm weather at the course next to the park.
