RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Police in Raleigh say they have arrested a man in the shooting death of an 18-year-old and the wounding of another teenager.

A statement from police Thursday said 21-year-old Xavier JaQuan Sanders is charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill in connection the shooting on Wednesday.

Authorities say officers were dispatched to a call related to a shooting reported just south of the downtown area.

Kari Onyea Watson, identified as a student at Winston-Salem State University, was pronounced dead at the scene. Also, 18-year-old Dre’kwon Bagley was taken to WakeMed hospital for treatment of a leg wound.

Neighbors said they heard several gunshots.
