ROCKWOOD, Tenn. (AP) - Police in eastern Tennessee say an officer shot a suspect in Roane County who was driving a stolen Jeep.

Rockwood Police Chief Danny Wright says the suspect was conscious and alert after the shooting.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports (https://bit.ly/1PmEwpW) the suspect, who was not named, was driving a Jeep along Old Airport Road and then turned onto a trail. A Rockwood officer who was pursuing followed the Jeep on foot when it went off-road.

Wright says the officer “came upon the Jeep and some issues happened” and shots were fired.

Medical personnel were working to get the suspect out of the wooded area early Thursday afternoon.
